Curriculum

Birgit Alber's research focuses mainly on the following topics
a. phonology of German and its varieties
b. description and analysis of the Germanic varieties of Northern Italy (Tyrolean, Mòcheno and Zimbrian), compared to their Romance contact varieties
c. theoretical phonology in the framework of Optimality Theory (the analysis of linguistic typologies)
d. analysis of the stress patterns of the world's languages
e. prosodic morphology (the typology of truncation)
 
She is the coordinator of the research project "Minimality in Linguistic Variation", funded by the University of Verona, and a member of the European 7th Framework project AthEME "Advancing the European Multilingual Experience".
 
Her teaching covers all aspects of the structure of German (phonology, morphology, syntax, variation, history of the German language etc.).
 
For the spring semester 2018 she has been offered a guest professorship at the University of Bielefeld, Germany.
