The project concentrates on source and reception study within the recent reappraisal of the role of classical antiquity in early modern English culture, with a focus upon theatre. Special attention will be paid to the reception of classical dramatic conventions as well as the adaptation and transformation of classical myths in the plays and masques performed in England from the Elizabethan to the Caroline period.
