Learning outcomes

At the end of the course students are expected to:

• know the fundamental terms that in the Spanish-American cultures articulate the relationships between letrada culture and orality, above all through the study of the relationship between novel and popular music in the twentieth century’s narrative;
• Be able to apply the critical and methodological tools offered during the lessons in the analysis of the planned texts;
• Being able to elaborate and consistently disclose independent judgments about the main issues of the course.


Al final del curso el estudiante tendrá que:

• Conocer los términos fundamentales que en las culturas hispanoamericanas articulan las relaciones entre cultura letrada y oralidad, específicamente a través del estudio de las interacciones entre novela y música popular en la narrativa del siglo XX;
• Poder aplicar al análisis de los textos en programa las herramientas críticas y metodológicas proporcionadas en clase;
• Poder elaborar juicios coherentes y personales alrededor de los principales problemas tratados a lo largo del curso.

Assessment methods and criteria

Each student will present an analysis focused on the presence of popular music in a text not commented on in class, leaning on the critical bibliography presented in class and on at least two other critical texts (60 points). The text will have an extension of approximately 10 pages (1.5 space).
The rest of the final evaluation will consider the following points: 1) active participation during the classes (20 points); 2) preparation of specific activities assigned during the lessons (20 points).

Cada estudiante presentará un análisis basado en el enfoque de la música popular en una obra no comentada en clase apoyándose por lo menos en dos interpretaciones críticas y teniendo en cuenta las observaciones formuladas durante las clases (60 puntos). Se entregará un texto de unas diez páginas (a un espacio y medio).
La evaluación se hará tanto en base a la participación activa en clase (preparación de las preguntas (20 puntos) y de los fragmentos, comentarios en clase (20 puntos) como en base a la monografía (60 puntos).
