Learning outcomes

The course aims at presenting vital issues of francophone literatures, in particular with concern to the relationship between literature and the other arts, such as cinema, visual arts and dance.

Paola Perazzolo - 1st Part - 18 hours - 3 credits - Syllabus

The first part of the course aims at introducing the Literature of Québec during the second half of Twentieth Century. The “Révolution Tranquille” of 1960 provoked an important social, political and literary evolution, which contributes to the development of the dramatic production. The course aims at providing a literary view of these evolution, and will focus on the quatuor Le Sang des promesses by Wajdi Mouawad, whose writing focuse on themes such as exil, identity, forgiveness, memory. In particular, we’ll approach the second volet of the quator, Incendies, a pièce created in Montréal in 2003 and transposed in a film by Denis Villeneuve in 2010.

The final exam will be held as an oral conversation, in French: the knowledge of the general literary tendencies (cf. literary history of Québec) concerning the mentioned period are required, as well as the knowledge of the primary and secondary bibliography listed.

Laura Colombo - 2nd part

The final exam will be held as an oral conversation, in French, on the critical analysis of the texts studied during the course, as well as the knowledge of the critical bibliography.
