The weary Heroes: the Spanish Empire and its soldiers”
The course will be about the Spanish literature and culture of the XVIIth century, studying in detail the (auto)biographical relate of the Spanish soldier/adventurer travelling around the seventeenth-century Europe, both in a contemporary perspective (Estebanillo González) and in a current one (el capitán Alatriste). It will be divided in two parts: the first part will provide an historical and cultural introduction to the subject, whereas the second one will deal with the critical and literary matters specific of the (auto)biographical and genre-fiction of the Golden Age. The students have to prepare both the parts.

Assessment methods and criteria

Module: Lezioni
-------
The examination procedure will consist in an oral examination completely taken in Spanish language (save for the Italian bibliography). An evaluation of the degree of comprehension (reading and translation) of the texts written in Spanish will be also provided and a convenient linguistic competence will be required. For the attending students a possible intermediate examination might be planned during the course. Even if the programme for the no-attending students is the same, it would be better to consult the teacher before.
