Short description of contents:
Over the last few years scholarly studies have highlighted the increasingly acknowledged view that corpora can be used for a number of linguistic purposes, the following being only some of its most typical applications: the analysis of the grammar
and lexis of one or more languages, the study of general and specialised discourse, of intonation and prosodic features, both from the synchronic and from the diachronic point of view, not to mention the study of language for educational purposes;
finally, corpora may even be used for more theory-oriented studies.
In the present paper I attempt to highlight both problems and advantages of corpus use when focussing on lexico-grammar.
