The project “Inclusive and Trauma-Informed Practices in Foreign Language Teaching: Strengthening HE Connections between Ukraine and the EU” is an Erasmus+ KA220 cooperation partnership project developed by an international consortium composed of University of Verona (coordinating institution), University of Warsaw, Trnava University, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and Nizhyn Mykola Gogol State University.
OBJECTIVES - The project aims to develop and implement the InTeacHE (Trauma-Informed Teaching in Higher Education) approach, an innovative framework for foreign language teaching in higher education grounded in trauma-informed pedagogy. Its primary objective is to equip university language instructors with the theoretical and practical competences needed to support students affected by war-related trauma, particularly in the context of the war in Ukraine, while fostering inclusive, safe, and supportive learning environments.
ACTIVITIES - The project activities include mapping existing best practices in trauma-informed foreign language education, conducting a systematic literature review, developing methodological guidelines and the InTeacHE framework, and designing a specialised training programme for higher education foreign language teachers. The training programme will be piloted, evaluated, and refined on the basis of participants’ feedback and research findings.
IMPACT - The project seeks to create a scalable Continuing Professional Development (CPD) model for higher education institutions, contributing to the professional preparedness of teachers, the emotional and academic well-being of students, and the resilience of European higher education systems. Expected outputs include training modules, practical guidelines, digital educational materials, and the strengthening of long-term international collaboration among partner institutions.
