The research area of "English as a Business Lingua Franca” is rooted in the Global Englishes and English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) fields of research, dealing specifically with aspects pertaining to successful communication in the business workplace
through BELF – Business English as a Lingua Franca. The main objective of this project is to look at naturally occurring data in internationally-oriented business communication via English in order to identify major features of effective communication. The findings will lead to the achievement of the second objective, that is, first the analysis of Business ELT coursebooks aimed at investigating whether effective Communication Strategis for BELF are dealt with, and subsequently to explore pedagogical implications in teaching business English through the development of BELF-oriented teaching materials.
