My PhD project looks at the effects of late bilingualism, orthographic depth and dyslexia-related difficulties on reading skills and related cognitive abilities. The goal of the project is twofold: First, I aim at investigating how learning a second language with an opaque orthography (English) affects reading-related cognitive abilities (visual attention span skills) in Italian learners with and without dyslexia. Second, I look at how L2 proficiency affects reading strategies, both in the first and second language.
The project is funded by the Landesgraduiertenförderungsgesetz (LGFG) scholarship (Baden-Württemberg, Germany).
The project is supervised by Prof. Dr. Tanja Kupisch (University of Konstanz), Prof. Dr. Theo Marinis (University of Konstanz), and Prof. Dr. Chiara Melloni (University of Verona).
