The purpose of my PhD project is to analyze an innovative phonetic change currently occurring in Western Andalusian Spanish. This phonetic adjustment is produced when the lenition of the implosive consonant alters the realization of the subsequent consonant in clusters such as /st/, and thus originates a new sound. To investigate this phenomenon in depth, my proposal is grounded on three phonetic perspectives: articulatory, acoustic, and auditory phonetics, applying sociolinguistic criteria in order to accurately describe the current state of the phenomenon. Therefore, this project is theoretically framed within the sociophonetics interface and oriented to quantitative analysis of concrete linguistic variation and change.
