Ph.D. in Linguistics - 38° ciclo (October 1, 2022 - September 30, 2025)

Doctorate research program
During language comprehension, we process the continuously unfolding input as fast and efficiently as possible. We cannot generate the meaning of an utterance from a single word. So, it has been proposed that comprehenders generate hypotheses (anticipate) about the upcoming bottom-up input before encountering it. The goal of my project is to compare anticipatory eye movements of normally developing and dyslexic individuals at the semantic and phonological levels. We will investigate the time course of phonological and semantic prediction of individuals with developmental dyslexia and the controls by tracking their eye movements as they listen to highly constraining sentences and see an array of objects on the screen.
