Davide Di Maio has taught at the University of Palermo and at HafenCity University Hamburg. Since 2021, he has been a faculty member at this University. His research and scholarly interests focus primarily on twentieth-century German literature (particularly George, Wolfskehl, Hofmannsthal, and Zweig), issues relating to twentieth-century essay writing and Kunstreligion, eighteenth-century aesthetics (Schiller and Herder), and twentieth-century aesthetics (Klages and Wolters). His current areas of research include the work of the writer and playwright Botho Strauß, the concept of Konservativismus, the philosophical work of Ludwig Klages, and the relationship between literature and politics.

He is co-coordinator, together with G. Pelloni, of the research group “Krisis. Literature, Criticism, Culture and Politics” (University of Verona, Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna, and Sapienza University of Rome), and Deputy Director of the “Interdepartmental Research Centre on Romantic Europe” (C.R.I.E.R.). He serves as an editor for the journals Nube. Nuova biblioteca europea and Romanticismi (C.R.I.E.R.). He is also a member of the scientific committee of the Meltemi book series Gli anelli di Saturno.
