The course aims to illustrate the diachronic evolution of the Spanish language in order to understand its development processes (pre-Roman age, Latin age in Hispania, medieval Castilian and classical and modern Spanish), as well as to provide the main analysis tools of diachronic linguistics.
On completion of this course, students:
– will know the epistemological foundations of the discipline and major milestones in the history of the Spanish language, from its origins to the present day;
– will know the main evolutionary phenomena of the Spanish language, at a phonetic-graphic, morphosyntactic and lexical level;
– will be able to carry out an analysis of texts in Spanish of different periods and discoursive traditions.
