Obiettivi formativi

Il corso intende illustrare

(1) gli aspetti centrali della storia della lingua inglese;

(2) la storia del linguaggio giornalistico nei paesi anglofoni, dalle sue prime fasi alla situazione odierna, tra mainstream e unmediated journalism. Verranno anche illustrate le specificità del giornalismo multisemiotico.

Programma

Le lezioni verteranno sui seguenti argomenti:

1) early studies on language
2) history of English
- Mediterraneans, Celts and Romans
- Anglo-Saxons and Old English
- Vikings and Normans
- Middle English
- Standardization of written English
- Standardization of spoken English

3) History and development of newspaper language
- the early steps of journalistic writing in the 17th century
- Newswriting in the 18th, 19th, and 20th century in Anglophone countries
- Present-day newswriting in English (online and offline journalism)
- multimodal/multisemiotic journalism
