Learning outcomes

The course aims to offer any examples of the different philological approaches to the text of the Vǫluspá (in the so called ‘Poetic Edda’), one of the broadest literary conceptions of the world's creation and ultimate destruction. The poem explores the ‘old wisdom’, recapturing ancient oral traditions, through new scriptural christian patterns. So the analysis of Vǫluspá (in its different focusing manuscript versions) will be a repository of crucial problems for Norse philology, embodying both religious and ethical views and literary life during the late heathen and early Conversion times.

Syllabus

Metodi e applicazioni dell’indagine filologico-testuale alla Vǫluspá.
