The aim of the course is to provide an introduction to 18th-century British literature and to Postcolonial theories.
The aim of postcolonial theory is to investigate textual and visual modes of representation in order deconstruct and uncover the hegemonic dynamics (economic, cultural and political) in `race’, gender, national, cultural relations at the root of European/British imperialism. It will be from this specific perspective that the work of three authors, representative of 18th-century British literature will be discussed.
