Learning outcomes

The objectives of the course are:
- to introduce students to topics related to the development and spread of the English language, with specific reference to World Englishes, English as an International Language (EIL) and English as a Lingua Franca (ELF);
- to develop students’ awareness and understanding of the spread of English around the world and of its implications

Syllabus

During the course we will discuss topics related to the spread of English in the World, examining in particular the implications of these changes in Europe with reference to English as an International Language (EIL) and English as Lingua Franca (ELF), including aspects related to the teaching and learning of English.
