The course will introduce the students to a brief history of translation studies and to the theories that have developed since it became an academic discipline in the 1970s.The students will then get acquainted with some practical aspects of TS by comparing a best-selling novel translated from Italian into English and then also from the medium of the novel into the medium of the film. English students should be particularly intrigued by the way Italian films are dubbed and transposed into English.
This is an oral exam during which the student must demonstrate his ability in discussing the main questions and issues of TS.
