Digital Arena for Inclusive Humanities (DAIH)

DAIH is an interdisciplinary research center of excellence in the field of digital technologies and computational methods applied to languages and literature, with a focus on inclusion.

Established within the framework of the Departments of Excellence 2023-2027 funding scheme, the center serves as a catalyst for interdisciplinary collaboration, with research goals at the intersection of computer science, particularly artificial intelligence, and the humanities, specifically linguistic and literary studies. DAIH aims to foster and promote inclusion in research, infrastructure, training, and dissemination of scientific content to overcome disparities, inequalities, and discriminations in the modern society.

C.R.I.E.R. (Centro di Ricerca sull’Italia nell’Europa Romantica), a Research Centre on Italy in the European Romantic Period, was founded in 1992 by an outstanding scholar of Romanticism, professor Annarosa Poli, who was well aware of its strong supranational dimension and character. Since then, the Centre has evolved under the relevant direction, from 2004 to 2019, of professor Franco Piva, by extending its field of research to larger linguistic and cultural European fields of studies, comprising Italy, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, Russia and the Slavic World. During time, the Centre has also been transformed into an Interdepartmental Research Centre on Romantic Europe (Centro di Ricerca Interdipartimentale sull’Europa Romantica), with a strong interdisciplinary vocation and a focus extended on the literary, musical, fine and performing arts. The Centre publishes its own journal, Romanticismi. La rivista del C.R.I.E.R. (https://romanticismi-rivistadelcrier.dlls.univr.it/) and organizes both conferences and study days always honored with the presence and participation of outstanding prestigious International specialists in the field.

The Skenè research centre deals with drama and theatre studies, from the antiquity to the present day, with a comparative and interdisciplicary approach. A special focus is on the relation between classical and early modern English theatre. It deals with the transmigration of topics, narratives, theatergrams, genres and styles from the point of view of reception, performance, translation and cultural studies, among others. The group also explores the possibilities offered by the digital humanities for the study of drama texts. The research group runs the open-acess Skenè.
