Anna Maria Babbi's research activity is centred on medieval literature in romance languages. Notably:
  • Critical editions in Venetian, Old French and Middle French
  • French romance of the 1400s (Paris et Vienne, Pierre de Provence et la belle Maguelonne, the Chastelain de Couci)
  • Classical traditions (Virgil, Ovid and Boethius) in the French Middle Ages
  • Medieval Catalan literature
  • Franco-Venetian, the French of outremer
  • Translation/self-translation
  • Middle ages and modernity
  • Jean Renart
  • Leo Spitzer and Erich Auerbach
  • La critique génétique
  • Jean Tardieu

She is also the director of the journal 'Medioevi'. She is part of the scientific committee of the following journals:

Issues of 'Medioevo Romanzo e Orientale'; SCRIPTA. Revista Internacional de Literatura i Cultura Medieval i Moderna / International Journal of Medieval & Modern Literature & Culture; 'Le forme e la storia'; 'Quaderni veneti'; 'Rivista Valenciana de Filologia'.

She directs the collection 'La musa critica', co-directs the collection 'Medioevi', 'mneme', 'tardiviana.' From 2016 she has been part of the international scientific committee of 'Biblioteca Sanchis Guarner'.
