Breve descrizione dei contenuti:
Are social networks just a new medium to be taken on board or have they become entrenched in the news content as well? And if so, to what extent? This paper contributes to answering these questions by focusing on the quantitative analysis of the key words blog(s), Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube in two journalistic corpora: (a) the online archive of The New York Times and (b) the indexed articles of the English version of Google News, a news aggregator website that allows users to browse through all the indexed news articles within a date range. The distribution of these terms in the above-mentioned corpora through the latest years might mirror which social media are / have been quoted most and consequently which ones are / have been given more prominence and consideration by mainstream and/or independent newsmakers.
