PhD in Foreign Languages and Literatures – Languages and Cultures Track (41st Cycle)
My research investigates how Otherness is represented in Francophone Maghreb and Anglophone Latin American migration literature. I am building a large digital corpus of migration narratives and using methods from literary studies, sociolinguistics, Digital Humanities, and Natural Language Processing tools (NLP) to identify passages where cultural difference, identity, and stereotypes are expressed.
The project also compares how human readers and Large Language Models interpret these passages. By analysing both literary representations and AI responses, the research aims to show how Otherness is constructed in different interlinguistic and intercultural contexts and how well current language models understand culturally sensitive themes.
Supervisor: Prof. Simone Rebora (University of Verona)
Co-supervisor: Dr McGillivray Barbara (King's College London)
