Robert Musil, one of the most important authors of the 20th century German literature, fought in the Austrian army at the Italian front. During the First World War, between 1915 and 1917, Musil was also chief editor of the Tiroler Soldatenzeitung in Bozen and later of the Viennese journal Heimat. This activity has always been a philological problem for Musil scholars, who were not able to attribute these texts to the author through scientific criteria and never attempted to define carefully his style. By stylometrics analysis on the digital editions of these journals, we would like to provide a crucial contribution to both the scientific debate on this controversial topic of Musil criticism and the new forthcoming digital scientific edition of Musil’s collected works. Furthermore this project aims to shed a new light on the topic of Musil’s war experience, always read through these propagandistic texts, which have been censored by Musil scholars in order to not undermine the image of the author.
