In the context of the theoretic and critical investigation of French literary studies provided in the two-year master’s degree program, this course aims at developing both historical and methodological competences.
At the end of this course, students shall acquire knowledge in the field of the history of literature and ideas of the French Seventeenth century from several critical and methodological perspectives,, along with the capacity of applying this knowledge to literary research as well as to teaching French literature.
Seventeenth-Century discourses and representations of human passions.
Literary genres and texts by J.-P. Camus, Corneille, Descartes, M. de Scudéry, Tallemant des Réaux, La Rochefoucauld, Molière, Racine, Guilleragues, Pascal, Nicole, Madame de Lafayette, La Bruyère.
The course is held in French.
A detailed program with a choice of literary and critical texts will be given at the beginning of the course.
Students unable to attend the course are requested to contact the teacher.
Paper and oral exposition (concerning one of the literary texts the course deals with) and oral exam (full text and anthological literary and critical readings), both in French.
