Give to know some characteristics of colloquial Spanish; give to know the different manifestations of Spanish linguistic variation through the analysis of a specific phonological-phonetic phenomenon (the “yeismo”).
The course is divided into two parts. Part one: will focus on the yeismo, a phonetic-phonological phenomenon, that will be examined according to the different dimensions of linguistic variation. Differences between the traditional academic pronunciation and actual linguistic behaviour of speakers will be examined as well. Part two: will focus on discourse markers in colloquial Spanish and will be organized as a set of mini-lessons taught by the students themselves, after two introductory lessons where a member of the Val.Es.Co. (research team of the University of Valencia) will examine the concepts of ‘colloquial Spanish’ and ‘discourse markers’.
