The eight short stories and novellas by J.D. Salinger commonly grouped under the label “Glass family saga” are at the core of my research project. These works will be analyzed from a multifold theoretical and methodological perspective, encompassing narratology, literary theory (theories of desire, identity, intertextuality) and (digitally aided) stylistics. The analysis will focus primarily on features of characterization and on their role in the construction of a meta-discourse on literature, narrative and culture; specifically, the nexus among authorship, narrating self and cultural self will be explored in the later novellas of the 1950s and 60s.
