Learning outcomes

The course aims to favour a critical understanding of the relationships between tourism and space. It promotes the development of theoretical and methodological understanding and skills related to Cultural Geography and their application to the study of tourism. At the end of the course students will have to demonstrate the assimilation of the main concepts pertaining to Cultural Geography and the ability to critically apply them to understand tourism and its territorial impacts.

- Different approches to Cultural Geography in the international context
- 'Cultural turn' and Geography
- 'Cultural turn' and research methodologies: the qualitative approach
- Post-modern Cultural Geographies and Post-structuralist Geographies
- The 'Cultural turn' and in Tourist Studies: the contribution of the Cultural and Post-structuralist Geographies
- The cultural approach to the geographies of tourism
- Case studies

TEACHING MODES
Lectures and workshops, with group works aimed to foster an active and critical participation in class.

NB: In preparation to group work some readings may be assigned. Together with participation in group work, these readings will be considered valid for the purposes of the final exame. That is, they will be considered as part of the program already carried out.

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam will be oral and assessed according to the following criteria:
