On completion of this course, PhD students:
- will have understood the basic issues related to interlinguistic translation;
- will be able to problematize the translation of specific phenomena (onomastics, registers, neologisms);
- will be able to compare and evaluate translations on the basis of the theoretical premises given.
Brief historical overview on translations: Guidère's (2010) dichotomies.
Brief overview on contemporary translation theories.
Cultural aspects of translation: censorship, registers and onomastics (anthroponyms and toponyms).
The translation of neologisms.
Comparing and evaluating translations as a pedagogical and heuristic exercice. Analyses of translations from Leblanc, Laforgue, Queneau, Tardieu, Novarina, Édouard Louis.
