This course aims at learning correct pronunciation of morphemes, basic grammatical and syntactic structures and the minimal vocabulary of the Chinese language in communicative contexts; developing listening, comprehension and oral production skills; correct writing of the characters, starting from the strokes, their structure and fundamental radicals. At the end of the course, the student should be able to interact in simple conversations regarding some daily-life situations and to read and understand short and simple texts.
Phonetics and conversation: phonetic system pinyin, simple ad compound vowels, tone variations and the neutral tone. Some conversational topics include: simple greetings, presenting oneself and family, asking for phone numbers and addresses, telling time, date, age, price, etc.
Grammar: sentence structure and order, grammatical classes, affirmative, negative and interrogative sentences, adverbs, personal pronouns and interrogatives, temporal and locative expressions, nominal determination, nominal and adjectival predicates, auxiliary verbs, classifiers, and particles.
Caratteri: brief history and origins of Chinese characters, strutture, basic and compound strokes and stroke order, common radicals.

The final exam consists of a written test on grammar and characters, a listening test and an oral test in Chinese. In addition, homework is considered as an integral part of the final exam.
The division of the points is as follows:
Written test: 30 points
Listening test: 30 points
Oral test: 30 points
Homework : 10 points.
Since attendance is mandatory, 80% of attendance is required to be admitted to the final exam. Students must obtain at least 18/30 in each part of the test (written, listening, oral) in order to pass the exam. All parts of the exam must be taken on the same date. The credits will be registered as eligibility). Whoever intends to repeat the exam must repeat all parts of the exam.
