Learning outcomes

Part 1:
Introduction to Germanic Philology: historical linguistics (the Germanic isoglosses); vernacular manuscript traditions in Germanic languages: the literary geners; introduction to textual criticism; introduction to palaeography, to codicology and to the history the book.
Part 2:
Myth and old Norse epic in an agiographic text from the 13th century (the tale of Nornagestr).

Syllabus

I part of the course:
- Historical Linguistics
- Vernacular written traditions of the Middle Ages (Codicology, Paleography)
- Introduction to the history of medieval Germanic literatures

II part of the course:
- Myth and Old Norse epic in an agiographic tale of the XIII century ("The tale of Nornagestr")
