Core phenomena of the German syntax: Verb Second, wh-movement, matrix and embedded clauses
The aim of this course is to provide students with a formal description of well-known topics in German grammar: To arrive at a definition of both main clause (Verb Second phenomena/wh-movement) and subordinate clause phenomena, several aspects of grammar will be taken into account: constituents and categories, phrase structure in the generative framework and the so-called Transformations. The recent Minimalist model will be just touched upon.
