Learning outcomes

The main objective of the course is to introduce students to topics related to the historical development of the English language from a sociolinguistic point of view.


The course will focus on the examination of topics related to the historical development of English and to its spread. The implications of these changes with reference to World Englishes and English as Lingua Franca (ELF) will also be examined.

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam will be oral, in English. Possible investigation topics to be carried out at an individual level will be discussed during the course.
