Learning outcomes

This course is introductory to the multimodal approach to contemporary English with particular reference to the composite texts of magazines, websites, short videos and posters.

- A multimodal approach to contemporary English: a definition.
- Social semiotics theory and is applications to multimodal texts.
- The language of speech and writing
- Multimodality of the printed page: magazines, newspapers, comic books
- Multimodality of the wepage: educational sites, information sites
- Multimodality of the short videos: digital storytelling, cartoons and TV commercials
