PhD Scholarship "Multilingualism and language policies in Ukraine"

Appendix to the Call for applications for admission to the PhD programme in Linguistics, XXXVIII cycle, academic year 2022-2023

We invite applications of candidates who present a project in the topic area of multilingualism and language policies in Ukraine. We expect the consideration of both the Soviet Unions's policies as point of departure and the development of the policies since Ukraine's independence in 1991 to the present-day situation. Ukraine has always been characterized by a rich cultural variety and a strong multilingualism featuring not only Ukrainian and Russian but also "Surzhyk" sociolects and many other languages from a variety of linguistic families including Hungarian, Romanian and Crimean Tatar. The result of the PhD project may be relevant for the future language policy of Ukraine that we expect to be in line with the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages and the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Language requirements: Good command of Ukrainian, Russian and English.

Please follow the application procedure indicated in the call which includes the outline of a research project of 9,000 characters and a list of references which witnesses your knowledge in the topic area and which will be the main subject of the oral admission exam.
