Learning outcomes

The aim of the lesson is to illustrate the role played by historical grammars and dictionaries in the process of standardization of the English language and consequently in the development of the identity of the English language.

Syllabus

- Historical corpora and databases that cover grammar books and dictionaries of English
- Software of analysis currently available for the scrutiny of historical grammar books and dictionaries
- Focus on three scholars who have contributed to the development of the identity of English: Peter LEVINS, Anthony HUISH, Percival LEIGH
