Doctorate research program

Counterfactuals in literature are of particular interest for me. More specifically, I am interested in the their perception and evaluation by readers. For my doctoral dissertation, I investigate counterfactuals as rhetorical device, i.e., literary counterfactuals. The central focus of my research is cognitive processing of such counterfactuals by L2 readers. Besides, I am also involved in the study of counterfactuals as genre, i.e., counterfactual historical fiction. Overall, the theoretical framework includes mental models, language transfer and possible worlds. I use both online and offline research methods such as eye tracking and self-report questionnaires.
