Obiettivi formativi

Il corso intende fornire agli studenti una conoscenza di base della letteratura degli Stati Uniti nella sua complessità e pluralità, a partire da analisi di testi singoli e dallo studio di movimenti e tendenze letterarie.

Al termine del corso, gli studenti sapranno riconoscere forme di scrittura specifiche, e spesso conflittuali che, nate nel contesto di etnie e tradizioni diverse, sono raccolte geograficamente sotto l’etichetta di letteratura degli Stati Uniti ma risultano animate da obiettivi spesso opposti. Gli studenti sapranno inoltre approcciarsi ai testi con strumenti critici adeguati, e riconoscere le modalità specifiche dell’American English.

Programma

Il corso intende analizzare vari aspetti del rapporto tra letteratura e carcere negli Stati Uniti. Saranno affrontati i temi del trauma, della resilienza e della giustizia riparativa in relazione a testi classici dell'800 e a romanzi del 900.
Nel programma sono inclusi video e film.
