On successful completion of this seminar students will be able to
- describe the most prominent features of the historical periods of the German language;
- analyze simple texts from various periods of the history of German on the phonological, morphological and syntactic level;
- present the results of individual research convincingly and with appropriate presentation tools (power-point, hand-outs etc.)
In this seminar we follow the history of the German language from its Germanic origins to its modern form, concentrating particularly on structural characteristics (phonological, morphological, syntactic) of the historical stages (Old High German, Middle High German, Early New High German). This course is taught in German.

Final exams throughout the year are oral. Students which attend classes regularly are offered the possibility to give in-class presentations and to participate in a final written exam.
