The course will focus on Brecht’s epic Theater. Not only will we closely read relevant plays and theory by Brecht but we will also explore his analysis of the Third Reich and of Fascism. The aim is to provide deeper knowledges of this central and formative approach to theater theory and practice.
The course is divided into two main parts. In the first part we will explore Brecht's analysis of the Third Reich and of Fascism. In the second half students will closely read relevant plays and engage with the main aesthetic issues of epic theatre, also as they have changed over the time.
The exam will be oral and held in German.
Students are expected to give a brief presentation of a selected topic.
