Lesson timetable

Learning outcomes

The course aims at investigating how, inside Northern medieval traditions, pre-literate mythology has been transferred into the emerging genres of writing, and how the medieval mytographers’ corpus has been reinterpreted in modern times. The analysis will mainly concern the three most important witnesses in the fields of Old Icelandic epic (Poetic Edda) and learned prose (Snorri’s Edda) and of Middle Latin historiography (Saxo’s Gesta Danorum).
