Lesson timetable

Learning outcomes

The course will introduce the students to the narrative of Robert Musil, one of the most representative Austrian authors of the Twentieth century. It will focus in particular on the novel The Man without Qualities (Der Mann ohne Eigenschaften), a landmark of modernism, which, in its mimicking of the essay form, offers an overview on Austrian and European cultural history. Moreover, the essays by the Austrian writer Ingeborg Bachmann on Musil’s writings will be analysed.
