Learning outcomes

The course aims at exploring how Restoration theatre critically echoed the variability of values which, at the dawn of modernity, assisted the birth of the British nation and how in the following century – the XVIII – the exaltation of virtue transformed, in a novelistic context, into an “exchange value” and ambiguously blurred its boundaries.
