Spanish Literature III (2007/2008)

Learning outcomes

The course aims at introducing the students to the Spanish literature and civilization of the Seventeenth century.

“The tired heros: the Spanish Empire and its soldiers”
The course is going to concern the Spanish civilization and literature of the seventeeth century, studing in detail the (auto)biographical report of the Spanish soldier/adventurer wandering through the seventeenth century Europe from the contemporary perspective (Estebanillo Gonzáles) and the current one (el capitán Alastriste). The course consists of two parts: the first one provides a historical and cultural introduction, whereas the second one is going to deal with the specific critical-literaries issues of the (auto)biographical and genre-novel of the Golden Centuries.
The students are bound to prepare both the parts.

Nel corso delle lezioni e/o su richiesta degli studenti verrano indicati percorsi di approfondimento relativi agli argomenti trattati.

The execution of the examination is provided in oral form, entirely in Spanish language (except the Italian bibliography). It is also provided a check of the comprehension degree of the Spanish texts (reading and translation); it is asked an adequate linguistic ability.
A possible test in itinere could be set during the course.
The outlined programm is in force also for the no-attending students, who are kindly requested to get in touch with the teacher.
