Presentazione Workshop Prof.Dr. Nathanael Busch

Prof. Dr. Nathanael Busch
Institut für deutsche Philologie des Mittelalters,
Philipps-Universität Marburg

Prof. N. Busch is a specialist of Medieval German philology. He authored critical editions and studies on the Middle High German literary tradition (Critical editions of Wigamur, an Arthurian romance from the 13th cent., 2009, and of Hans Sach’s Die Irrfahrt Ulissi, 2018; a collection of essays Die Literatur des Mittelalters im Fantasy-Roman, 2017).

He participates in relevant international working groups, among them the Société Internationale Arthurienne.

With Prof. Dr. Jürgen Wolf, Nathanael Busch heads the Handschriften-Projekt, a development of the Handschriftencensus (www.handschriftencensus.de), which had been scheduled as a complete inventory of German manuscripts of the Middle Ages (from 2006). There each MS is assigned to a regional scribal/dialectal area and dated, the texts that it hands down are identified and, if possible, assigned to known authors, adding a description of codicological and paleographical features.
In 2012, about 23000 mss had already been inventoried, but further mss from East-European, non-European countries and private collections need to be added.

Today begins his series of lectures titled
Alexander the Great‘s Journey to the Limits,

which will consist of three lectures:

#1: Alexanderʼs Travels (Friday 29 November)
#2: Alexander meets Stranger Things (Monday 2 December)
#3: From Above in Pictures (Friday 6 December)
